Laureline Galliot is a graduate of ENSAAMA (National School of Applied Arts and Crafts) and ENSCI – Les Ateliers (National School of Industrial Design).
As part of the Artists and Savoir-Faire program, initiated by the Frac-Artothèque, Laureline Galliot was invited to create a work that combined skills that she discovered with companies that have been awarded the Entreprises du Patrimoine Vivant (Living Heritage Companies) label in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
The artist drew inspiration from the leather work skills she discovered at the J.M. Weston and Agnelle factories to create an installation for the balcony area of the Frac-Artothèque. Her approach initially focused on the precise gestures of the workers who, upon receiving hides in the workshop, identify and mark the imperfections, ensuring that only the highest quality gloves and shoes are produced from them. It then expanded to the leatherworking process itself, which is designed to match the movement of hands inside the gloves and feet in the shoes.
From these observations, Laureline Galliot gradually shifted her attention to what, according to these methods, would be considered a form of imperfection, this time located within the human body. The artist became particularly interested in the ankle bone, which, for her, became a means of creating ornamentation, an invitation to work with flaws.
From this reflection emerged an installation that uses the metaphor of the skeletons of feet and hands, inventing a new way of designing decorative work.
